Stamford, Lincolnshire
Stamford is a beautiful town in eastern England full of lovely buildings with interesting architecture and attractive scenery. In this post I am letting the pictures speak for themseves.

There was a famous battle at Stamford Bridge ...surely this is not the place?
Beautiful! I swear by the mighty hand of Zeus that someday, Jilly and I are going to take our own pictures of England. I also resolve that while in the neighborhood; I am going to end my curiosity of haggis, one way or the other, once and for all. I know haggis is not British fare but I suspect I will have a better chance of getting the real McCoy over there. I am obsessed with this haggis thing.
Beautiful town, beautiful photography. The bottom two pix look right out of Pride and Prejudice. Your blog makes me want to return to England badly.

Very nice Bazza, Stamford, beautiful little water park area, refreshing.
The castle intriques me, serrated skyline, thick and heavy, solid looking, Permanent. I always wanted one with a moat.
The Cathedral makes me want to go inside and rummage, I used to stop and do that everywhere I went in Europe, find old books, really old, and altar pieces, other paintings, great stuff inside these fine pieces of architecture design, this one is full and rich.
The Grey/White cottage is lovely, wonderful trim and design work about it, very authentic looking, and cared for. The colors in the little shops nestled among the 'official' architecture (which looks far more 'real' than similar bldgs in the USA), the colors and trim are so much more than ornament, they are part of the character of the area as well as of the shops themselves.
Thanks for the tour, I wish to go in person, would be great to stay overnight and roam the streets over several days, talk to the people, eat with them, ah, I miss traveling. (Sometimes). Thanks Bazza.

rob: The Battle of Stamford bridge took place two weeks before the Battle of Hastings which began the Norman Conquest of England. King Harold marched his troops over 250 miles, down to Hastings, after defeating the Vikings at Stamford Bridge near York. They were probably beaten at Hastings through exhaustion!
slaghammer: This in incredible; as I read "by the mighty hand of Zeus" in your comment a tremendous lightning flash and instant thunderclap shook my house (and me!). I nearly jumped out of the seat. Blimey guv'nor. Anyway, haggis is a Scottish dish. Do you know that it is made from sheep's heart, liver & lungs boiled in the animals stomach for an hour? Still hungry?

jim: That castellated building does look like a castle but it is in fact a late Norman church. When I visit these places on business I often think I would like to go back for a few days and wander around. I have just landed myself a great new job which means a lot less travelling but I will be able to keep up this style of blogging although with other peoples photos!
